SEALT Board of Directors

The SEALT Board of Directors includes a diverse mix of individuals with backgrounds in ranching, real estate, land planning, water, and the environment.  We have a strong sense of ownership and a deep understanding of the issues because most of our board members live and work within the lands we serve.  We know firsthand what the impacts of unfettered development will be – to our water, our land, and to the community.  We are local people working together with our neighbors to save the places we all love.

Susan Blair (Patagonia, AZ)
Susan is a former teacher turned archaeologist.  She and her husband Duncan have been ranching for more than 20 years in California on the central coast and north of Wickenburg, AZ.  They now reside in Patagonia and ranch on a Forest Service Allotment east of Nogales, with their southern boundary the international border.  Land use and the protection of resources have always been paramount in their approach to land management.  Duncan serves as a Santa Cruz County P&Z Commissioner. In 2003, the Blairs were recognized by AZGFD as “Habitat Stewards of the Year”.

Ben Brophy (Elgin, AZ) Vice Prseident
Ben comes from a 3rd generation ranching family and is the Managing Partner of the Babacomari Ranch Co. in southeast Arizona, the largest contiguous private land parcel in Arizona. Ben has been with Cargill’s Feedlot Division for over 15 years and is currently the Beef Genomics Commercialization Manager, based in Wichita, KS.

Shel Clarke (Vail, AZ) Board President
Shel’s background is in environmental remediation and permitting and he currently serves as a Vice President at Haley & Aldrich.  Shel has been President of SEALT since 2000.  He and his wife Jacque live in Vail, where they have 4 horses and a cowdog named Earl.
Richard Collins (Patagonia, AZ)
Richard and Diane, son Rich and daughter-in-law Jackie, operate the C6 Ranch between Sonoita and Patagonia. A native Arizonan, he has owned and operated farms and ranches in Arizona since the 1960’s, holds a PhD from the University of Arizona, and was co-owner of headquarters West until 1997.  The Collins family advocates a watershed-based, collaborative approach to solving land use problems.  AS a result of his leadership and innovation, Richard was instrumental in forming the Canelo Hills Coalition.

Julie Holding (Patagonia, AZ)
Prior to moving to Patagonia, Julie served as Associate Director of the Jackson Hole Land Trust, among other nonprofit sector leadership roles.  In Patagonia, Julie served as Foundation Manager for the Patagonia Regional Community Foundation and most recently as Southeast Regional Manager for the Arizona Community Foundation.

Randy Massey (Sahuarita, AZ)
Randy is retired from the BLM, where he spent 31 years “doing deals” with ranchers in Utah and Arizona.  As a BLM Range Conservationist, Randy wrote management plans for allotments and worked closely with ranchers on fencing, pasture rotation, and water development issues. He currently has a consulting business where he helps BLM deal with land exchanges.

Fred McGee (Patagonia, AZ)  Secretary
Fred grew up on a ranch in Wyoming and has been associated with land trusts in Montana and Arizona since 1992.  Fred was previously on the board of the Gallitan Valley Land Trust and remains very passionate about preserving ranching traditions in Arizona. Fred  heads up SEALT’s conservation and stewardship programs.

Dennis Moroney
Dennis is a second generation rancher and is currently president of Cochise-Graham Cattle Growers.  He and his wife Deborah own and operate the 47 Ranch in the Mule Mountains.  Dennis is a past president of the Society for Range Management and is on the board of the Arizona Cattle Growers.

Karen Riggs (Pearce, AZ)
Karen represents the 3rd generation in her ranching family and she is raising a family of FFA’s.  Karen is employed by Cochise County as an engineer.
Ian Tomlinson (Sonoita, AZ)
Ian is a Seattle area native who moved to Arizona in 2001 to take an active role in managing his family’s 20,000-acre VeraEarl Ranch, which borders the Empire Ranch on the West.  Ian is an attorney who practiced law in Santa Cruz County from 2002-2007.  Ian finds his business degree helpful in managing the ranch’s assets – cattle, grass, and land.
